Soccer – International Friendly – Argentina vs Mexico
My big betting events this weekend are predominantly soccer as I love the International Break. I always feel as though you can get better value when wagering on these types of games and they always produce plenty of entertainment along the way. These two teams play one another twice within four days and it should be a fascinating tussle between the pair.
One of the reasons that I find this a terrific betting opportunity is that Argentina are always vastly overrated by the bookmakers and although they have the better players and quality within their squad, team spirit is badly lacking. They stunk the place out in Russia and I’m still not sure that they’ve improved since then. Lionel Scaloni has already decided that Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain will not feature in these games and that will weaken them significantly.
Mexico were exciting to watch during the World Cup and El Tri have a number of good young players including Hirving Lozano, who has impressed in the Eredivisie this season. They are fast, technical and should be able to trouble the Argentinian defence which is without Nicolas Otamendi for this fixture.
There are always plenty of goals whenever these two sides meet and there have been 16 goals in their last four meetings. Strap yourself in for another classic, this should be a fantastic 90 minutes of football between two terrific sides.
This game can be streamed via several UK bookmakers websites and it kicks off at 00:00 on Saturday morning UK time.
Soccer – Nations League – England vs Croatia
The second of my big betting events this weekend comes from the Nations League. I think this competition has helped make the International Breaks more competitive and as a result, they’ve been more enjoyable to wager on.
England have only lost one of their first three games in this competition and that was a narrow defeat to Spain. The Three Lions were absolutely superb against La Roja in the return fixture and if they can repeat that level of performance here, then Wembley is going to be a cauldron of noise. Gareth Southgate has assembled a good young team and I’ve enjoyed watching and betting on them in recent months.
Croatia have been unable to improve upon their performances at the 2018 World Cup. They held England to a goalless draw when they met earlier in the competition but they were hit for six by Spain at the start of September and they need to take all three points here to have any chance of challenging at the top of the group.
They still have some quality players and Mario Mandzukic has made a decent start to the season at Juventus. He is likely to give the England defence the runaround throughout the 90 minutes.
One fascinating element of this game from a betting perspective is the psychology of the England squad having failed to beat this opposition twice this year. Can they put that disappointment behind them here?

American Football – NFL – Jacksonville Jaguars vs Pittsburgh Steelers
There’s another great fixture list in the NFL and I’ve picked out this Sunday clash to be included on my best betting events this weekend. Week 11 throws up another match-up between two of the most watchable sides in the NFL with Jacksonville Jaguars taking on the Steelers at TIAA Bankfield.
The Steelers didn’t get off to the fastest start but they arrive here off the back of a five-match winning streak and they will be looking to keep that momentum going. They have a number of players in-form such as Ben Roethlisberger and James Connor with the pair scoring 31 touchdowns between them so far this season. The pair are likely to have a big say in this fixture once again.
They are likely to be still reeling from the embarrassment suffered at the hands of this opposition back in 2017 when the boys in black and gold were swept aside by the Jaguars and they will be looking for revenge here.
This is a fantastic game and it’ll be interesting to see whether the irrepressible Steelers can get over their seemingly psychological issues when it comes to facing this opposition. They have been dealt some good fortune with the news that Brandon Linder will not be able to feature here for the Jaguars. The center suffered a knee injury against the Colts and is likely to be out for the next couple of weeks.
These two sides are on completely different trajectories at the moment but this game regularly throws the form-book out of the window and I can’t wait to have a bet on this game and settle in for some intriguing NFL action.

Soccer – Nations League – Turkey vs Sweden
My final best betting event of the weekend comes from League B, Group 2 of the Nations League. I stumbled across this match when I was flicking through the channels back in September and I couldn’t take my eyes off it.
It ended 3-2 to Turkey despite Sweden appearing fairly comfortable with a two goal advantage at the break. Janne Andersson’s side were one of the teams that I regularly bet on during the 2018 World Cup but they’ve displayed a soft centre in recent months and they are winless in their last five games. They sit bottom of this group with just 1 point so far but a win here would propel them above their opponents and this game will be pivotal in the final standings.
Russia are the standout team in this section but one of this duo will be looking to finish second in the group and this should be another terrific 90 minutes of football.
This is also a game which I will be looking to bet in-play as there are likely to be several momentum swings throughout the contest. Whoever loses this tie will be relegated and there is plenty at stake for both outfits. I can’t wait for this game to kick off in Konya.
This game can be enjoyed on Sky Sports Football for anyone who is based in the UK.
